Club Relocation
The club is currently negotiating to relocate to a nearby site within the local community. The long term aim is to improve the quality of the tennis facilities that are available to club members and the local community. We will keep this page updated with the latest news on this relocation as soon as it happens.
April 2007 Derbyshire County Council have now agreed to the request by Mortimer Wilson School to allow the New Watchorn Tennis Centre to be relocated within the grounds of the school. It is hoped that the new club will consist of 3 permanent indoor courts inside an air hall, 3 outdoor courts and a clubhouse.
November 2007 A draft lease has been produced by Derbyshire County Council.
February 2008 A draft lease has been agreed and submitted for final approval.
March 2008 The relocation of the club has been made the LTA’s number 1 priority for Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
September 2008 The management team is finalising the business plan and LTA application forms for stage 1 funding submission.
October 2008 Full planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of the old Watchorn site.
March 2009 The club’s business plan passed the Stage 1 L.T.A. funding review and a provisional offer of £350,000 funding has been earmarked for the club to relocate to a new site within Alfreton Grange Arts College.
